If you or someone you know has had a stroke, a weekly phone conversation with one of our trained volunteers can support you in your recovery journey.

What’s involved?

For eight weeks, a volunteer will chat to you for around 30 minutes. If you speak limited English, we may have volunteers who can support you in a different language, just let us know.

Talking things through on the phone can build confidence, help you feel more connected, supported and able to take the next step in your recovery.

Benefits

  • A chance to chat about things important to you, like your hobbies or interests.
  • A chance to share experiences.
  • Feel more understood, connected and supported.
  • Build confidence.
  • Understand stroke better.
  • Learn new ways to cope with the impact of stroke.

How to get started?

Simply fill out this short form. One of our friendly Stroke Support Team will get in touch to discuss your needs and match you to a volunteer based on the things you’ve told us.

If you’d like to sign up someone on their behalf, please fill in this form.

Important: The forms on this page should only be completed if you, or someone you know, would like to sign up to a weekly phone call.

If you have a question about stroke or need to talk to someone, you can call our Stroke Support Helpline on 0303 3033 100 or email helpline@stroke.org.uk.

Do you have over one year's lived experience of stroke as a survivor or carer? Do you feel you could support someone in their recovery journey?

By signing up to volunteer, you’ll support other stroke survivors and carers to take the next step in their recovery through a weekly call. By offering a listening ear and sharing your experiences can help people to build confidence and feel more connected.

You'll need to have your own email and be comfortable accessing online training.

Still not sure? Hear from Emilia and Guy, Daniel and Russell who have all been supporting people affected by stroke through a weekly call.

If you’re looking for more information about signing up to chat with one of our friendly volunteers, please read or download the leaflet or check out our frequently asked questions.
