We provide tailored support to tens of thousands of people each year. This includes:

  • One-to-one and group support.
  • Vital scientific research into stroke prevention, acute treatment and recovery.
  • Campaigning to secure the best care for everyone affected by stroke.

But we can’t do this alone – this is a team effort. It takes the determination of stroke survivors and carers, the generosity of supporters and the dedication of the healthcare and research communities.

Take a look at some of our key areas of work.

Stroke Support Coordinators

Our Coordinators provide a lifeline for survivors and their loved ones. They give vital, one-to-one support that stroke survivors and their families need, for as long as they need it.

They work to understand each stroke survivor’s individual needs, so they can tailor support to what matters most to them.

Stroke Support Helpline

Our Helpline is a constant voice of comfort and support throughout a stroke survivor’s long and frightening recovery journey. It is the only national helpline for all stroke survivors and their loved ones. One call opens a world of wider support.

Information

All our information is based on accurate and up-to-date evidence. We ask stroke survivors and their families, as well as medical experts, for input.

Research

Our research helps improve treatments, care and rehabilitation – saving thousands of lives and helping stroke survivors make the best possible recovery.

Fundraising

We have a busy events schedule. Our fundraisers work nationally and with local communities to raise much-needed funds to support stroke survivors.

Campaigning

We work with campaigners across the UK to be the force for change and drive improvements in stroke care.

Our ongoing work involves:

  • Campaigning to make stroke a priority ahead of devolved elections in Scotland and Wales.
  • Seeking 24/7 thrombectomy access in Northern Ireland.
  • Working to make sure the UK Government meets its target to reduce stroke death by a quarter in the next 10 years in England.

Volunteering

Our fantastic volunteers play a vital role in the recovery of stroke survivors across the UK. We provide training and resources to ensure our volunteers are well-equipped to help stroke survivors with their recovery and rehabilitation.
