AllClear can cover holidays for stroke survivors. Both single trip and annual multi-trip policies are available.

Since 2018, the Stroke Association and AllClear have worked together to help stroke survivors travel with confidence. Our partnership is about more than just insurance—it's about proving that a stroke doesn’t have to mean the end of travel.

Through our collaboration:

  • 600+ stroke survivors have accessed travel insurance designed for people with medical conditions.
  • Up to 20% of premiums are contributed to the Stroke Association, helping fund vital stroke research and support.
  • We work together to raise awareness and provide guidance on travelling after a stroke.

This partnership helps ensure that more stroke survivors can find suitable travel insurance, supporting them in planning trips with greater peace of mind.

Can I fly after stroke?

The answer to this question depends on your situation. In the UK, the Civil Aviation Authority suggests waiting at least two weeks after a stroke and at least two days after a TIA. Rules vary between airlines and countries so check before you book. For more information see our going on holiday after stroke guide.

Will I need a fit-to-fly certificate?

Airlines might need a fit-to-fly certificate from your doctor if you've recently been discharged from the hospital or are recovering from an ongoing medical condition. Certificates can be needed for a wide range of conditions, so it's best to check with your airline in advance.

Your certificate indicates that you're fit to fly at the time of your trip. If you have a long-term condition, your certificate may need updating each time you travel. Check with your airline before your next trip to make sure. The price of a fit-to-fly certificate varies depending on your doctor, but usually ranges from £20 – £40.
