Leisure and lifestyle
Annual leave
You'll start with 25 days per leave year (not including bank holidays) and this will increase with service, up to 30 days. Bank holidays are in addition to this, and also a day for Christmas Eve. However, we allow flexibility to take these dates at a time to suit you. (Annual leave for part-time staff is prorated). We also allow you to buy/sell some of your annual leave ahead of each holiday year.
‘Making Your Week Work For You’
We know that a lot of people would like to work flexibly and encourage all of our employees to make their week work for them and the people we serve. This doesn’t affect your contracted hours, or the amount of work you do, we have formal flexible working processes for this. It’s about how you flex your time to make sure that you work well, and live well. As long as you and your manager are happy that the needs of the charity are met, then we’re happy.
Long service Awards
You'll be eligible for rewards when you reach 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years milestones within your employment.
Volunteering day
This is one paid day per year that can be used to volunteer for any charity or community cause that's important to you.
Sabbatical
You can apply for an unpaid sabbatical for a period of three to twelve months.
Learning and development
We're committed to your development. There's a wide range of online and face-to-face courses offered internally, allowing you to grow with the charity and achieve your goals. We also offer bursaries, which can be used as a contribution towards the full fee for a long term course or qualification. Terms and conditions apply

Financial wellbeing
Pension scheme
The pension scheme we offer is 3% employee contribution, and 6% employer contribution. We operate this using salary exchange, but we do also offer relief at source method as an alternative if needed. (Due to legislation, the pension scheme is not available for staff based in Jersey or the Isle of Man).
Life Assurance
Our Life Assurance scheme gives your nominated beneficiary a payment of three times your gross salary should you die in service. The scheme is available to you if you have a contract of employment and it applies from your start date and until you leave the Stroke Association (up to the age of 75).
Sick pay
Staff in probation will be eligible for one week at full pay. After successful completion of probation to one year of service, staff are eligible for three weeks at full pay. After one year of service, this increases to 12 weeks at full pay with an additional week for each year of service (up to maximum of 26 weeks full pay).
Enhanced maternity and paternity pay
For those eligible to receive statutory maternity pay, we enhance this to 12 weeks full pay and six weeks half pay. For those eligible for statutory paternity pay, we enhance this to three weeks full pay and one week half pay.
Caring for dependents
If you need time off because of a dependent, we offer up to one week paid leave in a rolling year.
Real Living Wage commitment
We're committed to paying our staff The Real Living Wage, a voluntary higher rate of base pay. It gives a benchmark for responsible employers who choose to pay their employees a rate that meets the basic cost of living in the UK and London. It's higher than the government's 'National Living Wage' rate because it is calculated according to the cost of living.
Financial wellbeing loan
We have an interest-free loan of up to £600 to all staff who have passed their probation period. You can choose the repayment period, up to a maximum of 18 months. Payment will made to your bank account, and then you will make repayments direct from your net pay each month.
Discounts and savings
With our discounts and cashback scheme, you can earn cashback through online shopping on things like holidays, car insurance and fashion. You can also save on in-store shopping with discounts and vouchers for major retailers.
Transave UK
We have partnered with TransaveUK Credit Union to allow saving directly from pay. You can choose how much to save, and the money will be deducted straight from your net pay and transferred to your personal Transave account, (starting from £5 per month). Because Transave is not-for-profit organisation, any profit they do make is returned to members in the form of a yearly ‘dividend’ on savings.
Payroll giving
Did you know that you are able to give money to charity without paying tax on it? We can make the deductions tax free from payroll so you charity of choice receives more.
Electric vehicle salary exchange scheme
We've teamed up with Tusker to introduce an electric car salary exchange scheme. This means you could offset some of your salary before it gets taxed, in exchange for a brand new electric car.
