What is World Stroke Day and when is it?
World Stroke Day takes place every year on 29 October. It's a global awareness day that brings people together to improve understanding of stroke. It focuses on prevention, treatment, recovery and the long-term impact stroke can have on people's lives.
Every 5 minutes in the UK someone has a stroke.
It can change a life in an instant. That's why we're here to provide stroke support for every survivor and their loved ones, for as long as it's needed.
Becki's story – stroke doesn't discriminate
Health and wellbeing coach Becki had a life-changing stroke while breastfeeding her three-week-old baby. After losing the use of the entire left side of her body, she is sharing her experience to show that stroke can happen to anyone, regardless of age or fitness.
Recovery is hard, but with support from the Stroke Association Becki is determined to keep moving forward. She says every cuddle with her children feels like a victory.

The work we do
Every year we support tens of thousands of stroke survivors, like Becki, with their recovery. We're the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for stroke survivors and their families. We also help people connect with others who understand the realities of life after stroke.
Without the Stroke Association, many stroke survivors would be at risk of becoming isolated, unsupported, and unaware of the resources available to help them. The organisation plays a crucial role in promoting independence, wellbeing and social connection.
