Your support helped people like Vicki
Vicki was just 20 when she had her stroke. She couldn't walk, speak or even smile, and was temporarily paralysed.
Before her stroke, she was pursuing her dream career working with horses. She was determined to move forward but had to leave the job she loved. She became stressed and developed anxiety.
Vicki decided to attend one of our local support groups and found the Stroke Support Helpline incredibly helpful. 'They've been phenomenal,' she said.

Want to do more? You can still help
Even though May is over, there are plenty of ways to support people affected by stroke and keep the momentum going.
What is Stroke Awareness Month?
Stroke Awareness Month takes place every May to raise awareness of the devastating impact of stroke. It also highlights the importance of providing vital support for stroke survivors and those who care for them.
In 2026, we asked people to Make May Purple to help support more people affected by stroke. Thanks to your support, we reached communities across the UK.
Why Make May Purple matters
Your donations directly help stroke survivors in a number of ways. By raising £100,000, we can:

Support
Fund our Stroke Support Helpline for 10 weeks, providing vital information and support for people affected by stroke.

Research
Support research projects exploring issues such as predicting stroke risk after a transient ischaemic attack (TIA).

Recovery
Provide over 110 hours of communication support sessions, helping survivors who have problems speaking, reading and writing.
