Description
Active Strokes North East is a registered charity located in Newcastle upon Tyne. It is a small charity run by stroke survivors and volunteers that meet twice per week at the East End Pool venue in Byker. All our sessions are free and we welcome stroke survivors living in Newcastle and the surrounding area. It should be noted however, that we don’t provide transport to the venue and do not provide personal care.
There is no need to contact us before coming to a session but if you require further information on the services we provide then please contact us preferably via email at: activestrokesnortheast@gmail.com.
On Tuesdays at 10:00 we have a 1-hour pool-based exercise session that is supervised by a qualified lifeguard. The session takes place in a private studio pool that is single-depth, has easy access steps and a chair-hoist. Buoyancy aids and foam exercise pool-bells and tubes are available. The session is open to a carer or family member to assist if necessary.
On Fridays at 17:00 we have a 2-hour drop-in session in the first-floor studio room (Elevator available). This session is both a social gathering and exercise class. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided to aid social interaction. A 20-minute chair-based exercise class is given by our fully qualified fitness instructor and the public gym is also available during the session time. Physiotherapy and complementary therapies are available at the drop-in.
Latest session days and times are available in the about section of our public Facebook page:
